novice needs help

I am back because I thougtht I would be able tofine the thread dealing with my problem. My problem is I want to send photos over the internet using e-mail, but any software I have will not let me post the pictures I have on my hard drive to the internet. I suspect the software makers want me to spend money to do this. Maybe that will be necessary, but before I did that, I thought I would search for help to find a free download to assist. I already have Adobe photoshop 2 but it will be a price upgrade to get what I want. I have HP "image Zone". I used Kodak to send a picture to a friend and it cost the friend about fifty cents a picture. Maybe I will have to buy more soft ware -- as they say, " it is only money."

I would appreciate some advice.
