[SOLVED] F@H run into serious error

Hi, I have been folding along for awhile, no major problems untill this morning. When I woke up I got a message saying that
"Folding@Home has run into a serious error running the core. and will shutdow."

What I have done so far to try to fix it is update to the newest version, and go into the directory for F@H and set all the cores to have the .old extension so that way it will download a new core, but the error still occurs.

I will attached he log file and system can be seen on the left (Vista OS)

also I just want to add that this error came with a new WU that never got started

Re: F@H run into serious error

This error can be caused by a few different things. To eliminate the possibility of a corrupt WU, delete the work folder and restart F@H. It will then download a new WU. If the problem still occurs, it could be hardware related (overclocking, memory errors, etc), page file issues, or lack of disk space.

Keep us posted.

EDIT:
Upon further review, this seems to be a common problem with the 2620 WU. On top of deleting the work folder, you will also need to delete the Queue.dat file and unitinfo.txt file to completely purge the WU and get a new WU.

Re: F@H run into serious error

Hi,
I do think it was te 2620 WU, with my luck after I deleted everything, I got another 2620, so I deleted again and got a 2527 and it seems to be working ok right now.
Thank you

Re: F@H run into serious error

The guys at F@H know about this issue, but seem to be dragging their feet a little in addressing the problem.

I believe another one was WU 2421 , but I'm not sure.

Deleting the Work folder and restarting F@H is usually a good place to when you encounter folding problems. Just remember that if you have completed WUs that haven't uploaded yet you will lose them when you delete the Work folder.

Re: F@H run into serious error

I tried to get the system tray version working and I think I tried everything under the book
chipset drivers re installed
display drivers
installed Cuda drivers
un installed cuda driver
deleted work unit multiple times
took cudart.dll from the apps folder and copied it into the folding@home folder in program files

SO after that I tried to use the console client and it works perfectly fine!

Re: F@H run into serious error

I actually did install the console client and that also crashed for me. It was probably a bad WU.
Thank you for the input though.

Just another thing I find strange, up untill about the releast of the offical 6.2 or the version before that I was using the beta of F@H and never had a single major problem. Only network and server being down.
(I also have the viewer.exe problem where DEP says it has to close it, but that isnt a real issue and not worth the time)

Do they currently have a CPU beta out? I was looking for one (hoping the beta may be better) but all I see is smp, gpu stuff.

Re: [SOLVED] F@H run into serious error

It is, but I think it was a little different and gave more diffcuilt WU or something like that. I'm not sure exactly, and if it is like that, it wouldn't work for me. This is a laptop I use for classes so it gets shut off multiple times a days, then when I do work, sometimes I have to lower F@H so I can use the laptop freely (or keep it cool if I'm not at a desk)

So I guess your only choice is to use the basic client?

I think so, which is fine, it isn't too much work (had to delete the work folder and everything today a couple times after finishing a wu). Kind of annoying like that, but at least still working.

is there any change to how long you have to submit the WU? (as I said U can't constantly run F@H)

Re: [SOLVED] F@H run into serious error

I've just started a fresh WU (using the SMP) and it's due to finish in 6 days, although I should do it in half that time. It depends on the WU - this one is taking about 25 minutes for 1% - which is why the deadline is 6 days. Most deadlines for the SMP WUs are around 4 days.

Re: [SOLVED] F@H run into serious error

Wow, quick deadlines. Especially when its going to take you like 41 - 42 hours to do that whole WU. Thank you for the input. If I had a second computer that I could leave on I would give it a try.

Come to think of it, it really doesnt take me much longer than that to do a WU but it gets spread out over a much longer span of time.
