Anyone have the time/patience to walk me through this?tx
I have strolled through the Folding At Home information and SURE I definately want to join in and I will gladly allow my computer serve a higher purpose
![]() I am afraid by reading through the threads (prob. more accurate to say "surfed") I am totally without a clue as to whether my computer is savy enough to do this. I downloaded the FAH program, installed it, but when I try to start it up I get a lengthy message ....a list of things Folding@Home Version 6.20 Usage: fah6[-option1][-option2]... Options: -config Configure user information -configonly Configure user information, then exit -help Dislpaly this usage screen -queueinfo Get information on queued work units -delete x Delete item #x from work queue -send x Send result #x to server then exit. Use x=all to send all results -verbosity x Sets the output level, from 1 to 9(max).Default:3 -pause Pause after finishing & trying to send current unit -oneunit Exit after completing one unit -forceasm Force core assembly optimizations to be used if available -gpu x Run GPU code on the specified display number Please note the above recognized flags for when you start Folding@Home again. OK (button) *-*-*-* It appears that I then close out the notice and that is the end of that. Kinda like a vicious circle. I read through the directions about configuring for the first time but I don't believe it allowed me to make any changes or even acknowledge what the TSF team number is....ok I wait patiently for response Thank you in advance for guiding me through the steps to see if I can get this up and running. |

Re: Anyone have the time/patience to walk me through this?tx
Hi Cathy.
We can help you out, but we'll need some info on your PC (OS, CPU, Memory, etc) Also, which version of the F@H client did you download? The System Tray client or the Console client? The System Tray client is by far the easiest to use and setup, but the console client is needed to run the higher performing SMP clients designed for multicore systems. |

Attachment 38296
I don't know if you can read this very well. It is the message I get when I try to open f@h. It will not allow me to proceed and closes itself out. The instructions from the link you provided advised to configure anti virus software to exclude f@h. I think spybot is the only anti virus program I have on here and it doesn't have folding on the list of products to scan. I believe McAfee and Norton wanted money to continue to provide anti virus services. Wait, I may have remembered something. I think when Bruce1 was helping me he had me install a program that blocked things. Don't know what it was called but will get right back to you when I find the name of it. Meanwhile, let me know (if you can) what the above captured message is trying to tell me lol

Re: Anyone have the time/patience to walk me through this?tx
I know screenshot is very hard to read but it is translated in my first post, ok going to go check my lists for security type programs I have ..be back in few
p.s. It's 1:30 am here and I may end up going nitey nite before getting back to you, I'm not trippin about delays in communication. As long as I know you will check up on me when you can, we can muddle through this. I apologize for not being familiar with terminology, am pretty much self taught using the "Oh Chit" I don't think I should have done that method! So if I am not making any sense ...well, nevermind lol ....geesh ok on mission to see if anti virus may be blocking folding

Re: Anyone have the time/patience to walk me through this?tx
What it's showing you is actually the -Help usage screen. Where did you download the 6.20 client from? It's could be corrupt.
You could try downloading version 6.23 and see if it will install properly. BTW, Spybot is not an Antivirus software, it's antispyware. You should be running some kind of Antivirus. A couple of good free ones you can use. AVG Avast |

Re: Anyone have the time/patience to walk me through this?tx
Hey,
I was hesitant to reply because I knew I would be seriously reprimanded for being wreckless when I had determined I indeed had no virus protection. Thank you for the heads up on where to secure one at no charge, I will get that as soon as done posting here. I was also going to ask you if you thought I should uninstall and get a fresh copy. I am not sure how I got to the version I currently have but I will use the link provided in your post for version 6.23 and then get back to you one way or another. Thanks and will let you know how I do. |
