Where is everyone?

Quite a few members seem to have stopped folding. If there is no response to this thread is a PM to each inactive user worthwhile?

Re: Where is everyone?

I think the team is doing a great job. We're ranked 563 out of 147,106 and climbing daily, which is pretty good for a small team that's been going for just over 12 months.

We have to expect that some people will drop out along the way, but these are usually replaced by new people thanks to our banners and threads like this that draw attention to the project.

Re: Where is everyone?

I agree with koala, I know there are times it may seem I'm inactive even (just between conditions of where and how I use my laptop). In the few months I have been partially inactive I dropped a lot of places. There are plenty of people folding and we just have to remember we are a small group, especially compaired to other groups out there.

I also agree that we are doing very well. I just don't want to see people losing interest after the intial enthusiasm.

Re: Where is everyone?

I think that is going to be a hard one to control. Most people I don't think are going to want to deal with the hassel of any problems they incounter and having to always start F@H when turning on their computer and things like that.

Re: Where is everyone?

Sorry guys, but I have to kill F@H while I figure out what's wrong with my machine. Using up half my processing power just isn't a good idea right now. Even at 6% it gives me a fairly accurate imitation of a rock. Except I think rocks move sometimes.

Re: Where is everyone?

Hehe - if my wife would remember to start F@H when she switches on the PC (early afternoon - she works part time) then I'd be doing even better....

I agree with koala - some drop off is likely, but we all have the banners and this sub-forum is full of info - can't see us doing much more...

Re: Where is everyone?

Some time ago...I was here under a different user name... Any how I suddenly found out that I was unable to log in...so eventually I re registered under a different user name and email address.

Obviously some large improvements have been done here during my absence. This forum is much more professional than it used to be.

I now find it a very nice place to get help.

Re: Where is everyone?

Glas, I think this has an autostart option somewhere. I know mine did, which is part of the reason why Norton kept attacking it. Stupid Norton.

I think I got all the bugs worked out. I'll be coming online with an SMP client later today. Right now I have school.

Re: Where is everyone?

It doesn't work so well if you have two clients running as I have. The console client starts OK, but the GPU client crashes for some reason and I have to start it manually.

Re: Where is everyone?

I'm still stalled . . . :( I have no idea why my connection speed is so terrible. I checked for malware, uninstalled all of my bandwidth leeches, and by-passed my router. All have given me the same result.

I think it's time to enlist professional help. *wanders off to Security*

LOL

When I first started folding I had several rigs folding. A couple of socket A's, a FX-60 running SMP, then built an AM2 as a dedicated folding rig running the Linux client. I upgraded the FX-60 (my daily rig) to an E8400 with an 8800GT. It became to much of hassle to keep all the rigs going 24-7 so I dwindled down to just running the SMP client on my E8400. When the released the GPU2 client I switched to that and have it running 24-7.

The key for me was and is consistency. My rig is always on and always folding. I've got a couple other dual-core rigs ready to fire up, I just don't have the time to get them going.

I understand where JTP is coming from. If we still had 60+ members folding, I think we would be in the top 300-400. For a team with less than 40 active members we are doing great.

We should all be very proud of our contribution, and I would like to personally thank all of the members who have contributed to this team in the fight for a cure.

Re: Where is everyone?

While not one of the top contributors to the team, I stopped folding for a while due to getting a new laptop and leaving my old Desktop to my parents...

Just started up again with a client running on each of my duo core processors. ^_^

Question though-- my graphics card is an nVidia Geforce 8400M GS; is it worthwhile/feasible to run the GPU client as well?
