"Can't find a suitable pixel format" is this F@H

Hi guys very occasionally (it happened twice today but hasn't happened for some time) when I first boot up my computer I get a prompt pop up I think it has Error on it and it says "Can't find a suitable pixel format" I click OK and my computer seems to work OK but it just happened again and I clicked OK and I then moved my mouse over the red F@H icon in my task bar to see how it was doing and the icon disappeared and I had to restart F@H so I guess this might be a F@H problem.
I think when I have had this problem before it has been with an earlier F@H install so I guess it must be a bug in the program. Has anyone else had this problem? It's no great hassle as it only happens very occasionally.

Re: "Can't find a suitable pixel format" is this F@H

It happened again today and here is a screen dump of it also the same thing happened to Folding @ Home and I had to restart it again.

If it keeps happening I will reinstall F@H but I would be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem.

I've never seen this error. Which F@H client are you using, and which version number is it?

If it's the graphical one, do you run it with the graphics window open or minimized? You might want to consider using the command line client.

Re: "Can't find a suitable pixel format" is this F@H

Hi koala it is Version 5.03 Build November 9 2004 Windows Graphical Edition. I don't run it with the graphics window open though it does come up occasionally with screen saver and very occasionally I open it to see how it is going but mostly I just hover my mouse over the icon in my task bar to see how it is going.
I seem to remember a couple of installs ago that I had some trouble when I was viewing the graphics window I think it locked up my computer. I have a clean XP install now.
Maybe I will check out the command line client when I finish this work unit.

Re: "Can't find a suitable pixel format" is this F@H

Hi koala I just checked out about the console version and it appears I cant see how it is going also on Their site it says
Quote:
Note: The viewer included with the Systray client is not working properly and it's a known bug. The Pande Group is aware of the issue and is working to fix it. In the meanwhile, don't use it (it's not required to open the viewer to make the client run, having the Systray icon on the taskbar is enough).
So maybe that is my problem. I might persevere with this version and if it keeps playing up I might reinstall. Thanks for your help.

Re: "Can't find a suitable pixel format" is this F@H

I'm using the GPU console client, so I'm not sure about the standard console client. The GPU one doesn't have a systray icon at all, just the console window. I usually have this minimized, and click it occasionally to monitor progress.
