Simple questions on text based client(s)

Once again, I am pushing the envelope of my limited computer knowledge.

I am running F@H5.04. I firstly want to confirm that it is as simple as when the dos window is open, it is working, but close the window and stop the program.
Second question is, when it is running, how do I alter any of the configuration options? Do I have to stop and start it?
Third question, which kind of negates the second, is having asked it to run as a service, it now is. But how do I change any of the config? Do I have to stop then restart with the appropriate flag?

Then, just to make the whole thing really really interesting:
I decided my old PIII was a bit slow in 98 2nd ed. with the old F@H, so I decided to install F@H on the Ubuntu partition that my dad had set up over christmas. However, unlike the sketchy memory I have of dos, I have no idea about ubuntu!
So having installed F@H5.04 on Ubuntu (Gutsy Gibbon) which was a minor triumph and a major phone call; can someone help me with questions 1 to 3 on Ubuntu- especially as I have entered a slightly different name, and I would far rather change it on the program while it runs (are the flags for F@H the same??) than look schizophrenic in the team table!
Actually, instead of question 3, does Ubuntu have a 'task manager' because I wonder if the program is still running?

Thanks for the time.

My System

Re: Simple questions on text based client(s)

Hi Paul, this link will take you to page with info on how to config your console client. I'm not real familiar with the windows console client, but with the Windows SMP console client all you do is go into the folder and double click the FAH icon. The CMD window then opens and the program runs. If the CMD window is closed the client stops running. I believe when it runs as a service it'll run automatically when you login to your PC. (I'm not sure though, as I could never get the service to start)

As for Ubuntu, the terminal window can be closed after the client is started and the client will continue to run. The closest thing to task manager that I know of in Ubuntu is System Monitor. On the toolbar go click System and you'll find System Monitor under the Admin tab. Once you open System Monitor click the Resources tab to a graph of CPU, Memory, and Network usage.

I hope that clears things up a bit for you.
