could not connect to work server

I have F@H Win client V5.03.
The first results were sent o.k.
The subsequent results have not been sent acording to v5.03 log file, and have been queued for about a week.
However, the work units have been credited on the scoreboard.

I have unchecked the use IE settings box. And deadlines are set to no preference.

Mc Afee firewall is set to give F@H full access.

What is really strange is that I have noticed reciently that when it tries to send the results, there is a huge amount of data leaving F@H but this then suddenly stops with the could not connect to work server message.
So I can't help but wonder if there is a time out/ data limit somewhere my end, there end, or in the middle (ADSL provider).

Any suggestions?

Re: could not connect to work server

Hey Paul, sorry for the late reply.

Could you attach a copy of your current FAH log file. (To attach the file, click “Go Advanced” then click the paperclip, browse to the file and click upload.)

Re: could not connect to work server

That is very odd. Your results are uploading and you are receiving new WUs but it's not showing in you log. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling.

In the meantime I'll see if I can find an answer.

Re: could not connect to work server

Thanks.

I had held off a reinstall as I didn't want it to loose any unsent WUs. But if it looks as if they are sent, but not acknowledged by F@H5.03, I have nothing to loose.

Re: could not connect to work server

Just installed 6.01beta2. Made the potential mistake of not uninstalling 5.03 first. 6.01 still couldn't connect to work server. So I uninstalled it then reran it (doesn't seem to have an install as such). Still couldn't connect.
Tried changing the settings to force a server connection while I was watching the Mc Afee firewall, no data seemed to flow.
Changed it from outbound only to full access with Mc Afee.
Looked to see if Windows Firewall happened to be the problem: it was enabled, but was set to warn me if it blocked anything. Turned it off anyway!
Looked in my ADSL router firewall to see if that was the culprit: the log file contained no listings of blocked attempts.
Still no work instructions. F@H is just Sitting@Home!

Latest logfile attached.

Re: could not connect to work server

So I've now installed 5.04 instead. And it still can't connect to the assignment servers 1 or 2.

I don't know all that much about computers, but does anyone know the addresses of the assignment servers?
And if so is there a way that I can check that something isn't blocking my access to them (does ping do this, or would simply typing the address into firefox suffice?).

Re: could not connect to work server

At the risk of writing a monologue, I caught 5.04 trying to connect to the assignment server at 171.65.103.93
I then entered 171.65.103.93:8080 into firefox and got an OK page.
I also looked at the server status link on the folding forum, and 171.65.103.93 was the first on the list and did not have any WUs to allocate.

I am starting to think that answers only lead to more questions!
Any suggestions? Or should I bother the official forum?

Re: could not connect to work server

This one's got me stumped Paul. I think you should post at the official folding forum and see if they have an anwser. Please post back with the solution.

[Solved] could not connect to work server

The helpful suggestion of the official forum was to suspect the McAfee firewall, and disable it just to see.
I thought I had all my bases covered already, but I did so anyway and disabled the firewall and the privacy service. And it worked perfectly on the next attempt!

So I may try some tinkering at the end of this work unit, but worse case scenario is that I have to disable the firewall for the time it takes to download the WU.
