Thanks for the screenies Donald.
I'm very surprised that AS5 didn't do much for your temps. It takes awhile to reach it's maximum potential, but as I seen an instant 8-10° drop on my FX after applying AS5. |

Some nice detail there Donald (and pics) it would be interesting to see the comparison between the two amounts of arctic silver.
It was interesting to see your Graph 1 that the temp of core 0 and core 2 were higher than 1 and 3 which made me think with the heat sink being slightly concaved (as you pointed out) that core 0 and 2 might be positioned where there is the thickest layer of Zalman thermal paste (concaved gap) but when you used the artic silver they came more together. I also noticed that throughout it all core 0 was mostly higher apart from a spike where 2 was highest but that might be due to the work being assigned to the various cores which is waaaaaay over my head ![]() Last edited by sandman55 : 02-02-2008 at 07:20 PM. |

Hey guys this has been a very interesting thread to say the least, great job, I have been reading some reveiws about artic coolings MX2, if you have any oppinions or have used it let me know your results, most reveiws say its better then as5

I haven't used MX2 or even read about it Doby, but I'll grab some and see what kind of results it gives.
I have to strip my board back down soon anyway, to get some pics for our upcoming MB sticky. I couldn't get a good pic due to poor lighting, and only having a 3.1 mega pixel camera and was anxious to get my E8400 up and running. |

The thread is being pulled for a few days due to my wrong method of the application of AS5
(Please don't ask how, I'm too embarrassed to own up, but the thread has ended up in 'HiJackThis Resolved' section.... - I have asked JtP to kill it for me.)I should be able to re do the AS5 bit and rewrite that bit in the next 48 hrs... It will be interesting to note the effect on temperatures of a badly applied method compared to the proper method... I can always claim that it was done deliberately so I could delineate the differences! ![]()

Guys, I've used MX-1, MX-2, AS5 and many others including the latest one from OCZ. OCZ Freeze, Shin Etsu and MX-2 are best ones in my repeated experience but between them, you might not find much difference and variation from application to application and heatsink to heatsink can be much.
![]() Core temperatures: the TjMax for processors is known, it is fully documented but only to those bodies Intel believes require the details (usually ISV's) and the information is in the BIOS Writers Guide which is available only under NDA. CoreTemp author (Arthur, no pun) has the correct TjMax data as far as I know but some others don't and are making up values to suite their whim, thereby misleading lay users. Matt: MP won't matter with camera's trust me, it's the media and marketing where they spread this myth so we go running to throw our money away... unless you're printing larger than 1600x1200 ![]() 2MP is perfect to take 1600 x 1200 size printable pictures, but what you have to work on and see is, how good the CMOS and lens is, its quality, the resolution grain, and adjust the aperture, focal length, lighting ISO and other settings to enable a good picture. That's what separates one camera from another and their respective qualities. HIH ![]() |
