Thanks Donald - I'll keep the box minimized from now on.

Based on one of your earlier posts, I've amended the cpu usage to 50%.

Don't think things have changed much. It's not shutting down, but doesn't appear to be doing anything now.

With the SMP for Windows client, a CoreStatus = 63 can either be a permissions problem or a MPI registration problem, or both. To fix the problem, set the properties of the fah.exe file to "Run as Administrator" and then run the "install.bat" file again to register MPI and the SMPD service.

Failure to install .NET 2.0 (Win 2K, XP) prior to installing the SMP client can also result in this error.

If a server with SMP WU's is not available or is overloaded, the client will be assigned to 0.0.0.0, which tells the client to wait and try again. This is intended to keep the SMP clients crunching SMP WU's. It is a temporary fix until port 80 connections and a backup work server are made available.) An example of the information in your log:
- Connecting to assignment server
Connecting to http: //assign.stanford.edu:8080/

If you are assigned to 0.0.0.0, there's nothing you can do except to wait for the guys at Stanford to fix the problem.

Thanks Matt.

Yes I did install Net 2.0 before downloading the SMP Client. I rest the cpu usage to 50%. I'll maybe rerun install.bat again tonight and see what happens. Perhaps I just need to be patient...

Re: SMP Client shutting down

Hi Glas

Check with your Task Manager/Processes that you do not have more that one instance of fah.exe running. I had some problems because i had 2 fah.exes running

I the problems arose from aborted installation and then re-installation of the smp.

The original (failed) installation placed fah.exe running as a service. It was left in place, even after a de-install.

On reinstalling, it placed another instance of fah.exe when the client was started. The original fah.exe 'opened' and 'locked' the FAHlog.txt.

---------------------------------------------------

As a seperate issue I had the client closing down a few minutes after I had quit work for the day... I think (only think) it was possibly caused by the screen saver in some way. However during the day, when the machine is idle & the screen saver kicks in, the machine still folds... Because of the closing down at night, I missed the completion deadline...

Because I dont like having the DOS taking up space on the task bar at the bottom of the screen Koala pointed me to a very small utility that can place ANY programme into the Systems Tray.

I installed it yesterday... This morning, I note that the machine continued to run all night

------------------------------------
Comment: I dont know for sure which of the remedial actions I took sorted out the problem was, but a recap of what I did:
A) closed client down then deleted the fah.exe that was 'stuck' in Task Manager/Processes. Restarting client placed only one instance there.
B) deleted the 'locked' FAHlog.txt file. The next WU creates a new FAHlog.txt
c) Installed the Utility to place the DOS into Systray.

------------------------------------

The utility, "TrayIt!" can be found at: http://trayit.en.softonic.com/

Re: SMP Client shutting down

I'm kind of at an disadvantage here Iain. I'm not running the Winsows SMP client on any of rigs. They are all running the Linux SMP either on Ubuntu & VMware within Windows XP or a Native install of Ubuntu.

Try Dons recommendations and if they don't work you might want to post at http://foldingforum.org/

I know a couple of other members have posted in that forum. Please keep us posted and I'll continue to see if I can find an answer as well.

Have you been following me.....?

Try this:

Stop the client.
Delete the contents on the Work folder.
Delete the queue.dat file.
Edit the configuration file (Client.CFG) changing the ID from 1 to 2, 3, or 4. and restart the client. In your case you may need to reboot. Not sure about the running as a service deal.
When the client starts you shoud get a New protien to work on and should be well.

Just a little something I stumbled across, let me know how it goes.

If you are leary about this method then Move the contents of the Work forlder and Queue.dat to a different location. If it doesn't work then you can move it all back.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
