F@H error....

Hi all,

All of a sudden, I'm getting "Could not connect to work server"

Running Windows XP SP2... 2040MB RAM...

Any ideas?

Also, I remember reading a thread earlier about Ubuntu on a VM, but I can't find it anymore... Anyone know where that is?

Thanks,

-screen317

Re: F@H error....

About the Ubuntu part... Never mind, found it.

Wasted all that time downloading... I realized my computer don't support 64bit systems. -_-

Original error still stands.

Re: F@H error....

Current Teams Is this the Ubuntu you were looking for? It is irrelevant if your system is 32 bit or 64 bit, I'm running 32 bit XP and it works fine for me. if you go onto page 10 of that thread, you will see that issue addressed.

Do you have a firewall blocking F@H internet access?

Re: F@H error....

Something's wrong then...

Windows firewall disabled... nothing else I can see that could hinder a connection.

Re: F@H error....

Did you download the 64 bit version of ubuntu and not just the standard version?

Re: F@H error....

Yep.

I was on the VMWare site earlier...

Quote:
32-Bit CPUs

Please note that Workstation and VMware Server require a 64-bit CPU to run a 64-bit guest operating system. While it is theoretically possible to emulate a 64-bit instruction set on 32-bit hardware, doing so most likely results in unacceptable performance degradation.

VMware distributes a free utility that can be used to determine whether or not your CPU is suitable for running 64-bit guest operating systems. You can download this utility from the VMware Web site at http://www.vmware.com/download/ws/drivers_tools.html (scroll down to Processor Check for 64-Bit Compatibility). VMware Server includes this utility in its product distribution, so you don't need to download an additional tool.
How did you do it!?

Re: F@H error....

Well, from reading that I would assume your processor just is not designed to emulate 64 bit? *I'm not familiar with 64 bit, linux, or VMware, so idk what to tell you.* It just sounds to me as if it's not possible for you.

What server is it failing to connect with. You can check server status, it might be a problem their end.

Re: F@H error....

You must have a dual core, 64bit CPU, and if it's Intel it support VT. If you only have a single core CPU, or a 32bit cpu then stick with windows GUI client.

As for the server connection, check the link that GG posted. Also, right click on the tray icon and go to Configure, Connection, and make sure the box next to "Use Internet Explorer settings" is unchecked.

Re: F@H error....

Thanks guys. :)

How do I determine which server it is trying to connect to?

Re: F@H error....

View your F@H log and in there it should say what server you connected to.

It should either eventually connect to a collection server or it will keep it in your work queue until it can connect with the work server.

Well it's been almost a month, and it still can't connect to the Work Server...

Is there any sort of way to select which server to connect to?

Right click on the F@H icon and open Configure. Go to the Connection tab and make sure that "Use Internet Explorer Connection Settings" is not checked. Then go to the Advanced tab. Under Deadlines check that the drop down menu is set to No Preference. If you have it set to Deadlineless you won't connect to a server because no WUs of that type are currently been offered. (Atleast for the single core clients.)

Post back with your results. If it still fails attach you log file as well.

Re: F@H error....

mattlock,

Thank you for the reply! I had it set to Deadlineless.

Set it to No Preference, restarted the application, and it proceeded to download an update, and away it went! All is well now; expect some contribution from me, finally.

Thanks again.
