Koala, Welcome to SMP!

Congrats on completing your 1st SMP WU and raking in 1760 points. They rack up quick when running the SMP client.

Now if only we could get some more of the multicore members to run the SMP client we would really rocket up the rankings.

I should have another dual core system up and running SMP within the next couple of weeks. I took advantage of a combo deal, promo code and MIR from Newegg and got 2GB of XMS DDR2 800 and an AM2 4200+ for $75. I just have to pickup a motherboard, then I'll upgrade my oldest kids PC. Total upgrade cost will be about $140. (Fantasy Football winnings going to good use)

We'll be in the top 1000 in no time!

The SMP client wasn't playing friendly on my PC.

Re: Koala, Welcome to SMP!

I wish I'd known about the SMP client earlier. Using the GUI or text console, I was getting about 300 points per WU. With the SMP it's 1760 and it takes the same amount of time, about 60 hours.

I noticed it's a beta version which expires after 2 months. Do you know if this is 2 months from its release date or 2 months from installation?

Re: Koala, Welcome to SMP!

I believe it's 2 months after release. I did a little searching and found that it's suppose to expire Feb 1st, but as long as you don't restart your system or the client itself it will continue to run. The expiration dosn't cause the client to stop, it only prevents it from starting after the expiration date. At that time you'll need to download the next Beta or the final release (which ever the case maybe) The FAQ said that another client would always be released prior to the expiration.

Re: Koala, Welcome to SMP!

I will have to try it out on my main rig. Do our stats still register as having 2 CPUs or does folding only see the SMP client as one CPU?

Re: Koala, Welcome to SMP!

It's only seen as one CPU, the points per day are outstanding though. I've done 12-15k per week since I started running 2 SMP clients.

Re: Koala, Welcome to SMP!

I was going through my list of subscribed threads, clearing out all the old ones, and found this thread from December.

Just a quick update. I've upgraded from an AMD X2 4200 to an Intel E6850 and my SMP times have now dropped from 60 hours per WU to 32 hours. The CPU is only running at 2.4GHz because of a BIOS problem. When I get that fixed and do some overclocking, the time should drop to about 24 hours.

Re: Koala, Welcome to SMP!

That's pretty good. I found a real difference switching to SMP - I reckon it's about 27 hours for one WU now.
