Strange Happenings?
Howdy all. Well I went to see my score and all. And it says I completed 12 wu's? My oc is quick but not that quick lol.. I have finished 9 as 2 of them were "super villains" I have no idea what that means but it took a little longer to finish those..
Is this normal or is it a screw up? Thanks ![]()

Re: Strange Happenings?
They must have been "easy" ones. I have completed 17 WU but have 10X the points you do
(j/k) so the ones I completed must have counted for more than the ones you did. I'm pretty sure that's how it works. What I don't know is how it assigns the WU's in the first place. ![]() Does the server assign different WU's to different computers based on some measure of system performance? My comps are certainly not high powered - they're just on all the time. |

If you continue getting failed WUs then you should consider dropping your OC a little or bumping up your voltage a little. |

Re: Strange Happenings?
Thanks.. That explains allot...But as far as failed WU's due to over clocking my system is pretty stable and below is the screenshot of my temps.. Or is it the program does not like overclocked cpus?
Well I can turn her down back to 3 ghz should still throw em out.. But going to start it out as well on my new quad machine...The AMD 6000+ is what is turning em around now.

Re: Strange Happenings?
I have just been 'rejected' with the laptop wanting to complete a WU. Said it could not find the server etc...
A quick check with the quad confirmed server available Back on the laptop, I quit folding programme, rebooted & it found server, uploaded completed WU, fetched another on and is as happy as JtP with chrome juggling thingies. ![]() I am not claiming this to be the panacea of all woes but I have noticed that running the computers 24/7, it does the machines good to reboot every couple of days or so, especially if the machine is being multi tasked. I guess rebooting flushes buffers, cache and other dregs left behind and giving it constipation. ![]()

Re: Strange Happenings?
Hi Geek73
I just clicked on your sig link 'Whats running' and I got a file download. I would like to know more about it before I download and run it. What I am really looking for & you may be able to advise/help/point... I often see a lot of modem activity and HD activity at same time. Scares the poo outa me In case a nasty got in and someone is hacking etc. I would love a utility that I can kick in that will show what data is being rx/tx and to whom. The traffic I am seeing is probably updates to AV/MS/Folding etc, but it would sure be nice to visually see who/what/why!

If your OC can make it through 24hrs of Prime95 for single core CPUs (Orthos for Dual Cores, two instances of Orthos for Quad Cores) then you're truly stable. Folding@home, like Prime95, is all about crunching numbers so it will reveal system instability that doesn't show up in daily use. If backing off on the OC doesn't help then you'll need to start checking other things like the RAM and HD. BTW, can you give me some detailed info about your OC? (Speed, voltages, RAM speed, timings) |

Re: Strange Happenings?
@ DonaldG... I like What's running as you can break down the process tree and look into services and there trees and even where the kernel memory is going..
As for modem always blinking that is pretty normal.. You firewall is blocking traffic, your ip is pinging your ip addy, and programs it deems as safe are accessing the net for updates and the like..See SS below for what I use it for.. And I would never recommend anything I have not at least tried for spyware and other nasties etc.. @ Mattlock.. My OC is stable... I go through a very slow process when I get a new box. I overclock about 2 points at a time..And do a 24 to 36 hour stress test with Prime 95 running both cores, and N-Bench...When I got the 6000+ I took it from 200 fsb to 202 then 205 then 208 etc... It took me a week to get it a little past where it is now.. I dropped it down as I don't like my temps going past 55c under heavy load for a long period of time.. Those temps are actually the temps running with FAH loaded up.. Voltages are pretty descent although I think I am going to get a higher rated psu soon. As the 6 hd's I am sure are taking its toll on the pcp&p psu though they are one of the best out there. Just to be safe though I would rather have a 900 watt so that should bring temps down a little more. I like to have to much power and a cool system than just enough power and it gets a little hot.. My cpu is stock 3ghz..with my multi@ 15...Right now it is at 3.3ghz but I can get it stable @ 3.6 I have tried 3.7 but no matter how I loosen my timings or ram dividers it just wont stay stable.. My cpu voltage is (I think, would have to reboot for sure lol) 1.47

Re: Strange Happenings?
WARNING TO ALL! Clean up is a good program but will also wipe out files used by F@H! When you restart your system your WU will start over at 0% I guess it is something to do with the status files or something, I'm really not sure, but things like that keep putting me behind in my folding.

Re: Strange Happenings?
I'll post again since the server lost most of my post from last night! I was just playing w/my sig and was partial to this one since ags131 helped me with it. Still waiting ona vote so I can use the one our team desides on. Don you had some great ones too and more familiar to others who might know a little of folding @ home
