I'm a regular user of clean up too, found out about the Folding @ Home connection the hard way, also made some of my work "anonomous". Thus only 2 credited WU

Re: Strange Happenings?

It runs in the background at low priority. This means that it will use however much CPU time you've allocated, but will release the CPU if you run something else.

I have been looking at it on the net.. Here are the things it says to do..

When it starts up right click on the little cog...Click configure..On Display move the slider all the way to the left
Turn off Main titles and turn off logos enabled..
Then put a check in the "Disable highly optimized code box"

I just started running 2 instances of it but I am guessing since I am running a quad core now I can do 4 cases of it, but do not want to kill my cpu just yet lol...
Just finished one that was worth like 200 points

Welcome to the team Wolf.

You can't set start and stop times, but you can adjust how much CPU is available for folding. Right click the tray icon (the cog) and go to configuration, and advanced. Adjust the CPU percentage with the slider. All the way to the right is 100%. If you are not letting your PC fold 24/7 then adjust the checkpoint freq. to 3 minutes so it saves the progress more often.

If you stop folding while doing other tasks, right click the tray icon and click "pause". To restart it right click the icon and click "start".

How rude of me.. Welcome to the team Wolf...

How many of you get these damn Gromac cores? They must be some hard proteins as it takes forever to get em done.. I have my 6800 quad working on it and it still aint gonna get done till Tuesday lol...But I think the math is wrong as I have 620 frames done and it is taking 1 minute and 28 seconds per frame..Don't add up.

With a quad the best results are from running two instances of the SMP Client.
The SMP Client is sometimes tricky to set up but well worth it, you can run 4 instances or the normal client but will not give you as good a result as 2 SMP

Since you are not running the SLP client, you are only using a single core to fold. You could have dual quads and it wouldn't make any difference if you're not running SMP.

The proof is in the pudding. Just look at my weekly points. I'm running to AMD dual core PCs with VMware and the linux SMP client on Unduntu 64bit. I'm cranking out about 10,000 points a week on average.

The SMP client is optimized for 4 cores but does alright on 2 cores.

As I've stated before, you pretty much need to be folding 24/7 with the SMP because the deadlines are set to 3-4 days.

BTW, I'm still working on a VMware/Linux SMP client tutorial to post on TSF. I was hoping to finish it up this weekend but haven't really had the time. I'm working every other weekend, and had to do some emergency data recovery and PC repairs today. Hopefully, I'll be able to work on it tomorrow.

Thanks.. Will run the SMP client..
Now My quad runs 24/7 (all my PC's do) Now can I run 4 SMP clients? This way I can take advantage of all 4 cores? Or will it just suck all the power out of the 6800(I have the extreme version)
Again thanks for the clarification..
Only problem is I cannot run Linux 24/7 as my wife ( I am trying to teach her ) does not know how to do anything on Linux.. I am building a new mini me pc just for me and will run only SuSe on it and she can have the AMD 6000+ I just want the 6800 quad for me..

I also love that you can see what your helping cure..

Re: Strange Happenings?

is there anyway of us actually being able to see and read what our progress is on the stanford site or the programs creator with a blog or something?

Re: Strange Happenings?

Donald (and others) regularly post our progress. If you go to the Stanford home site you will find a forum and a news page.

The SMP client must have atleast to cores available to it, so you can't run 4 SMP clients. As I said, it is optimized for 4 CORES/CPUs so by simply running it you will be taking advantage of all 4 cores on your quad.

You can run Linux 24/7 from within Windows using VMware (virtual machine). That's how I'm running it on both machines. VMware is only capable of using 2 cores on each machine though. So in that scenerio, you would be able to run 2 SMP clients on 2 VMs with each having the use of 2 cores on your quad.

Wolf, if you are using the windows GUI client, then right click on the tray icon (the little cog) and go to status. There you'll see, Team Stats, User Stats, etc. just click the one you want to see.

There is also a couple of third party sites one Kakostats.com.

Re: Strange Happenings?

On another forum (Overclockers AU they are second in the team points) they say that one smp client will only run at about 90% and that you need two to fully utilize a quad,
