Anyone tried to Get Schools to Run F@H?
It just occurred to me that at my kids HS there's a "Mac" lab that has maybe 24 tiny Mac's (I don't know what model - they're about the size of a thick paperback boot
) that are always on. They're only used occasionally for classes, maybe 3 - 4 hours a day. I'm wondering why they couldn't be set to run F@H the rest of the time. Has anyone tried to get their local school to join? Is there a prohibition against it or limitations from either end? I'll pursue if nobody has had a negative experience. yustr |

Hi yustr. Welcome aboard.
I have asked that question at F@H forum to see if they know of any problems. http://forum.folding-community.org/ftopic21886.html |

Re: Anyone tried to Get Schools to Run F@H?
It seems that the hardest part is convincing the school admin that it won't slow their machines down.
As long as it is installed on each machine and not just copied from one to another,it looks like there is no problem. |

If you check the team stats you will find some schools listed so should not be a problem.

Re: Anyone tried to Get Schools to Run F@H?
Thanks for the feedback -especially grumpy - the F@H threads were great.
I think I'll try to talk the school into it. They have a requirement that every senior do some type of public service project during the year. I'll ask if maybe there's a senior who'd like to do the leg work involved in downloading F@H to each machine and setting them up with a unique user ID. Then monitoring and reporting on the progress would be the year end report for grade. I'll let you all know how it goes. |

Re: Anyone tried to Get Schools to Run F@H?
You should have the senior set them all up with yustr as the user ID...that way you get credit for all the wu's

Re: Anyone tried to Get Schools to Run F@H?
I'm trying to convince my school to participate. Four high-powered labs (150 machines total) and two mini-servers wasted most of the day. The problem is the IT department manager is a complete Luddite. He doesn't even have a cell phone because he doesn't want brain cancer.
If I can get all four campuses on side, we can get a truckload of points. I'll convince them to sign on with Team TSF.

Re: Anyone tried to Get Schools to Run F@H?
If F@H was run at our school, noone would ever get the pcs working, they are shockingly bad as it is, just trying to run what they do at the moment.
