Folding@Home Banner

Here's some sample banners for Folding@Home. The 2nd and 3rd ones can be clicked to link to kodi's introduction thread. I wasn't sure what to put for the text, so if anyone has any suggestions, please post.

Re: Poor response to Folding @ Home

They're just samples to get some feedback about size, colour and content. Any of the elements can be changed.

I'll add a poll in a few days time, when I have some more banners to post, or if anyone else wants to make one.

Re: Folding@Home Banner

I like the top one the most. It is easy to read. Maybe we could still link it to the thread, and also have a message in our sig "Click on the above banner for more details" or somthing like that.

Re: Folding@Home Banner

Great designs.
I like the idea of having a link, as i think this will help to get more people to look at this section.
I also think the fighting cancer is a good idea to attract attention. Although cancer is only part of the research carried out, it is the one that most people have experienced in some way.

Re: Folding@Home Banner

I don't know if Jason wants the word Team used. Also, can non-staff members can have banners in their sigs?

The 'Fighting cancer' tag is there to attract potential new helpers, as just having F@H would be meaningless to most people. It can be changed to something else (something less dramatic or less specific, possibly?) but it will need to be a similar short phrase. There's only a height of 30-40 pixels to work with, so keep it simple.

I'll make the final banner clickable. GTP, your idea would work if the additional message below the banner was kept small. We don't want it to take up too much space.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Keep them coming and we'll have it finished by next week.

Re: Folding@Home Banner

I think non staffers should be allowed the F@H banner in their signature.

Re: Folding@Home Banner

If the banner were available to non-staff, i don't think it should have team on it as this could mislead people into thinking people like me had some kind of technical knowledge.

Re: Folding@Home Banner

They all look good IMO, but the second and third ones tell the inexperienced user what to do.
Nice job koala.

I see what you mean.

I still like the first one. It looks updated than last time I saw it?
I like the idea of having the text saying Fighting cancer and Click here for details. Just I personally think the first one is the easiest to read and stands out well. Also I would like to say that you have done a great job on these banners they look very good

I got a question, are we going to decide on one to use? or would we be able to use which ever one we want to?

Re: Folding@Home Banner

It's probably better if we all use the same banner to avoid confusion. I'll have some more variations posted in the next few days, then we can decide what needs changing and which banner to use before submitting the idea for Jason's approval.

Re: Folding@Home Banner

1) Fab designs - I add my humble congrats for not only for thinking about a banner, but actually doing something about it and designing some.

2) IMHO, the word "Team" in the context of this forum is synominous with the 'management' of the forum. I agree, anyone seeing 'Team' on the banner could believe that it is a closed group for members of the management. On the other hand, if wording to the effect 'Come and join the Team' may encourage proactive membership.

3) Although I am not a member of the ‘management’, an administrator has given me the courtesy of allowing a link to Kodi’s page in my signature. I would be only too pleased to add a banner to advertise it. Therefore, if it is technically possible, I support the idea of allowing ordinary members to carry that particular banner.

After becoming involved last week, I realise how important this project is. Jason should be congratulated for his idea and the members for adopting F@H project!

We need to attract more members onto our F@H team. Currently we have 18. To help in the project and to climb even quicker in the rankings we need to encourage more folk.

With the popularity of Techsupportforum in general and having a huge registered membership and even bigger set of visitors, we have a fantastic potential 'TSF F@H' membership capture group.

May I suggest item for discussion:
a) Could we create a F@H Club within forum and make sure that it is open for membership of all, registered members as well as visitors. (Visitors will, of course, need to be register as TSF members to join our team/club). Using the word ‘Club’ could remove the ‘closed team’ connotation.
b) Put a ‘sticky’ in every section of TSF explaining in non tech terms what it is about and how folk can help.

Food for thought – Any other ideas for advertising and encouraging membership of TSF F@H?
