They actually measure the team rank by score and not completed WUs.

I am feeling really cheesed off. I've run for over 48 hours without a fault and my latest WU has terminated because of instability having completed 3,350 frames.

I had the same problem, only not quite as bad as you. I managed to fix mine by replacing the ram and have had no problems since.
Somehow you need to find what is causing your system instability and fix it (easier said than done)

This happens sometime but it eventually downloads.
The servers are always very busy so at times it is hard to get a WU

Usually if the number of frames is low, they are large frames that take a while to complete but the overall wu should be about normal size.
