He won't show until he's completed a WU. I had the same issue when I first started and thought something was wrong.

Thanks Glas.

I PMed Admin about posting stickies in "Comments & Announcements" and "Introductions" but haven't received a reply. Hopefully the sticky in Offline will produce some new members.

Re: Current Teams

Sorry for not replying earlier Mattlock - For some reason, I'm not always getting all the email notifications to my posts.

According to the 'About' box, it's the Windows CPU client - Now 3/4 way through it's 2nd unit.

Re: Current Teams

I could? I dunno, I just downloaded the client that was on the page, shown for winXP....

It was quite a few years ago, when I did a similar thing for SETI, but that used the BOINC software, which worked as a screen-saver....

Are they interchangeable, as far as the 'work done so far' is concerned? i.e. I'm approx 3/4 way through WU #2, would I have to finish this one before swapping to GPU2, or could I install the new one and carry-on with this?

Possibly not - it wouldn't run on my 8600...

Re: Current Teams

It wouldnt run properly on my 8400GS untill I overclocked it, even then it took a battering
FYI: Im not running it at the mo as I have that many other intensive apps running my PC would just explode. I'll get back to it someday soon, Im only down to 20th position so far...

Re: Current Teams

hmm I thought 8000 series could run a GPU2 client...

your GPU is on the list Werebo
http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_learn_products.html

it just needs to be able to run CUDA

Re: Current Teams

Well, I just read through all the blurb and waffle, including the F@H stuff and, to be honest, I'm more confused now that I was before!

I think I'll stick with the client I've got, for the time being - It seems to work fast, and it doesn't slow anything down, games, movies etc.

Re: Current Teams

I might well do later, but this is my main PC and I can't afford the time out to repair/re-install everything, if something goes belly-up and wrecks it.

I'm looking to O/C the graphic-card fairly soon and, once it's stable and smooth, I'll try it then.

Re: Current Teams

My max stable OC on the XFX 8400GS low profile card was 21% on the core and 19% on the Memory. It may be different for other brands.
With a little soldering and real overclocking you can get 30% easily.
Just make sure you have a better cooler and some RAM sinks (though I didnt get much of a temp increase at all)

Re: Current Teams

Finding the right cooler is the trickiest bit, I looked around the various cooling sites (Zalmann etc.) but got a bit overwhelmed at the choices - Oddly, I found coolers for everything BUT GEForce 8400 GS's.

The one I've got is from Nvidia and, from what I can discover about it, I don't think it supports CUDA but I could be mistaken about that - the card is approx 14-16 months old.

'Speedfan, shows 2 temps for the NVidia card, the core shows 51C and the card shows 46C! No wonder I get confused

{Thinks} Should this be moved to the Overclocking section, I wonder.....

Re: Current Teams

I used a Zalman VF-700-CU.
It fits fine and works 30% better than the stock cooler.
I got mine for £6 off ye old eBay.
Its now in use on my 8800GT (very re-useable)

Re: Current Teams

You can fold on an 8400GS. You will likely see somewhere around 500 PPD depending on the WU. It might struggle with some of the newer WUs.
