Distributed Computing Code of Conduct
Distributed computing is a great way to have some fun, along with working for the benefit of mankind. It is possible your computer could be the one to find a cure for cancer, develop a drug for AIDS, or more. While the clients running are designed to run in the background and have a minimal impact on the system running it, it still uses some computer power, along with network traffic. Therefore we must ask you do not install any clients on other peoples computers without their knowledge and permission. It is actually illegal to install it without their knowledge. An example of this is David McOwen.
We therefore ask you follow these guidelines:

Re: Distributed Computing Code of Conduct
If the computers were set up correctly, he would not have been able to install this. I think the IT dept at his school is also to blame.
The students at my Pre_k-5th grade school could not install one of these on my student computers. They do not have the rights.

Re: Distributed Computing Code of Conduct
As he was an administrator he did have the rights.
I think what they are doing to him is lame, but he screwed up in not clearing it with his supervisors first.

Re: Distributed Computing Code of Conduct
Don't you just love the bureaucrats!
At an old job, my boss was away for a few days, in my first couple of weeks. Feeling the responsibility, I was extra vigilate to make sure that things didn't go wrong on my watch. While checking a couple of public network shares, I came across a password sniffer/cracker. Thinking that the main company network drive was not the best place for it, I moved it to my local PC, and awaited my boss's return. Less than 24hrs later, however, I get escorted from the building - I am told that my boss has remote-connected, found I have "hacking tools", and I have already been sacked for gross misconduct!!! I see am am lucky they didn't take me to court as well! |
