Which program do you most want us to team up in?

TSF had decided to make its mark on the distributed computing world, and create at least one team, possibly more. So we are putting it to a vote which project we should tackle first. For those not familar with distributed computing here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:
Quote:
Distributed computing is a method of computer processing in which different parts of a program run simultaneously on two or more computers that are communicating with each other over a network. Distributed computing is a type of segmented or parallel computing. But the latter term is most commonly used to refer to processing in which different parts of a program run simultaneously on two or more processors that are part of the same computer. While both types of processing require that a program be segmented—divided into sections that can run simultaneously, distributed computing also requires that the division of the program take into account the different environments on which the different sections of the program will be running. For example, two computers are likely to have different file systems and different hardware components.

After much research I voted for Rosetta@home here's why

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ra..._relevance.php

and more reasons

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/rah_ten_reasons.php

The site is also much more organized then the other witch helps keep track of team stats

I've been running seti@home for some years, but the medical ones seem to have more merit. Hence my question about running more than one at the same time.

I say folding@home. I used it for awhile and used to fold for another forum I was at and liked it. I think "Compute Against Cancer" would be a good one too.

I do not know if I'm the best at describing it any better then the quote I had added in the first post. But its a program that runs on many computers, each computer works on a little bit of the problem. Its done as use and cost of the servers to do this would be to great. I believe its a noble cause, as many are used for further advancement of humanity, although a bit are for fun. Things like cures for cancer, HIV/Aids, finding near earth asteroids, and more could possibly be found through a program.

As said by nickster_uk the links given will give specific details to each program.

Not to be a pain, but the poll ends this weekend. Right now I'm thinking of two possible groups, maybe one. If we do two groups, what I'm thinking of is giving away some shirts to random members of the group who is able to get the most members by the end of the year.

I did a segment of compute against cancer and the global worming one (not sure if on here) but it maxes your cpu..... that means my whole desk is shaking from my cpu fan lol, it takes me around 6 hours so you core 2 duos out there should devote like 2 hours of your time.

Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

The poll has been closed and Compute Against Cancer is the clear winner, although cancer research is dear to my heart for personnel reasons I hope that any team/teams we form are a long term commitment.

In my experiance to keep a team together and dedicated it has to be fun and competitive or interest fades, the team falls apart, and the main goal of helping to find a cure with our computers ends premature.

I am not lobbying or trying to change the poll results but Compute Against Cancer does not keep stats at this point in time, like some of the others do witch I think is something to consider for the reasons stated above.

Thoughts???????????

If anyone knows how to setup a team in Compute Against Cancer please let me know. If not, does everyone want to stick with this one or vote in another project?
