Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

John,

What client are you running?

I just installed this client "2000/XP/Vista Graphical client" on a semperon 2500, running XP, install was easy and its up and running without problem.

If you are running this client right click the icon in the tack bar and choose "configure" then click the "advanced tab", there is a slide bar to ajust "cpu usage percent"

I am new to this particular project but have run similar programs before, it will take some time to learn this one.

I plan on installing folding@home on several different machines from a 455mhz gateway to a amd 3400 64 so hopefully I'll learn what clients work best with some machines and be better at answering all your questions as best I can.

Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

kodi,

What client are you running?

What are your system specs? The one listed under " My System"?

I suggest running the "2000/XP/Vista Graphical client" and run windows XP, for that machine,it works well with XP although I have not tried it with vista just yet but will and report how it works.

Bare with me I am still learning.

The error you are getting and the WU points awarded seem to suggest the client quits part way thru the WU. You still get some points because you did complete work but not the complete WU so the total amount of points are not awarded.

There could be several reasons for this and I am looking into it

That's what I was running. I set it to minimum and it was still taking 100% so I removed it. I might have another go.

What client are you running?

You do have to joint Team TSF, to do this with "2000/XP/Vista Graphical client " you right click the icon in the task bar and choose "configure"

Then under the "user tab" enter a user name and under "team number" enter "85015"

You must click "OK" to save these settings

I have not completed any WU's yet so I have not sent info to the folding@home server, but I have recieved WU's so I assume other than joining the team nothing else is necassary.

NOTE: If you don't enetr a user name or team you will still process WU's but it will be anonymously with no credit to the team or a user for that matter

Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

John please do, I have confirmed the instructions in post #41 work, I tried the slide bar and my cpu usage went down to 5%

You mentioned you could not shut the program down. Did you right click in the task bar and choose " quit"? You can also choose "pause work" this will temporarily pause the program and return the cpu usage to normal.

Did you try killing off the process in task manager?

Just asking cause I want to know of any bugs, obviously we are having problems and I really want to work these out but its going to take some time, cooperation and patients amongst all of us.

BTW I have run computers at 100% cpu usage 24/7 for over a year with just a occasional reboot no problem. May I ask what concerns you?

I cannot install the gui client in Vista, if i could I think there would be no problems.
This system is dual boot so will change to XP and try

Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

Have got it working perfectly in XP now if only it could work in Vista as I prefer to use Vista
Have installed the Gui version and have regulated the CPU usage to about 75% just what I want

Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

Well guys thats great news, I'll see what I can find out about vista but like I said it will be a few days.

I have sucessfully installed and processing a WU with this client "Windows 98/ME Graphical client" on a 455mhz celeron, the computer is a gateway with onboard graphics and 128mb ram running 98se.

Weather or not it is cabable of completeing the WU in time is beyond me but we will see.

The WU has a time limit of October 30th I think.

I am trying various machines and OS to see what will work and what can be made to work.

Hmm thanks Brian, I wonder if I can do that while the current WU is running?

I don't think I can do that though because it might have to be set before the WU is downloaded so that only WU's without time limits are loaded to the computer but thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

yustr, sorry I'm clueless when it comes to Linux. Check out the FAQs on their site. They might be easier to follow than the wiki.

Go The Power, don't forget the team number.

John, I'm not sure why your CPU is at 100%. I have a dual core Athlon and Folding@Home running at normal priority only uses 50% spread over both CPUs. What happens when you stop Seti and just run Folding at normal priority?

kodi, the NaN error in your log file relates to RAM problems. Have you overclocked or changed the timings at all?

Re: Which program do you most want us to team up in?

yustr, me to, I am sorry, I have limited experiance with linux but as we gain members someone will know so keep checking in.

I have "2000/XP/Vista Graphical client" running in vista, I did have trouble getting it to install, I did have to close all windows and try a few times. Once it installed it seems to be running, I will let it run overnight and thru tomarrow and let you know.

I will be away for the weekend and I don't know if I will let these machines run or not but I will have internet access through my laptop so I will be checking in
