Help with Visual Basic.Net
Hello Everyone!
My name is Dave Smith, I'm a grandfather, very new to programming and need some assistance. I am back in school taking a Visual Basic .Net class. We are doing an assignment dealing with debugging and errors. My problem is this: How do I handle the DivideByZeroException in this problem; If RadioButton4.Checked = True Then Try TextBox3.Text = FirstNum / SecondNum Catch objException As System.DivideByZeroException MsgBox("you cannot divide by zero!") End Try End If I have tried various ways to catch the exception but the textbox shows "infinity" Our teacher wants us to modify the program so that the user input is validated before the divide operation is performed. Then when the division button is selected it should raise an exception when "0" is in the SecondNUm textbox. I have tried to get a subroutine address the zero, however the DIM for the FirstNum and SecondNUm are short and applies to the oher add,sub,multi operations in the program. So, when I attempt to address the division by zero issue by using SecondNum = 0 the whole program sees it and is affected. How do I write the code so only the division operation sees this? HELP! Thank you all for your assistance!!!!! "Grampa Dave"

You need to catch the exception before the division is done. eg
Code:
If RadioButton4.Checked = True Then
if SecondNum = 0 Then
MsgBox("you cannot divide by zero!")
exit // bail out here to stop the division taking place
else // if SecondNum isn't 0
TextBox3.Text = FirstNum / SecondNum
End If
End If
