removing associations

Have you tried removing Nero as the file (.dat) association? Go to Control Panel -> Folder Options. Scroll down the list of registered file extenstions looking for your .dat. When you find it, highlight it and in the lower window you should see what type of program is associated with opening it and running it. Try changing that to VB6.

yes, and becareful .dat is a format used by a lot of programs so if you can, make it an extension that hasn't been used before/isn't very popular...
