Ajax

Hi all, need your help for a moment..

I'm studing Computer Science at University and am going into my final year. As part of one of my large projects, I have to create an 'Online Shop utilising AJAX'. Now I'm fairly competent at XHTML/JS and have worked a bit with jsp but I'm by no means a web programmer as such. I'm looking for a book recommendation (or free links ) that will discuss some more complex techniques using ajax and how to achieve them etc.. Preferably also some links/books that run through xml with this sort of thing in mind too, as I've had very limited exposure to that too..

Any and all help appreciated.

Paul

Re: Ajax

Hmm... I'm not a huge expert at AJAX, but some of the Apress books on the subject look interesting. If your university has online book subscription(s), look there and see what they have. Something like Foundations of AJAX or one of the "Pracical <Subject goes here> Projects"/"<Subject goes here> Recipies".

A couple of the tutorials here are Ruby on Rails and AJAX tutorials.

Also consider looking into ZK. If I was more of a fan of Java (and had more free time), I'd be tempted to try it.

Unfortunately that's about the extent of my recommendations. If your university has one of those book subscription services, you can probably find tons of books on XML.

Re: Ajax

Thanks for the info , I'll certainly check out my uni's online book subscription sites. Those links are just the kind of thing I'm looking for, I wasn't looking forward to delving back into SQL but some of those are softening those guides look like they'll soften the blow a little bit.

That ZK thing looks very interesting, I'll send my project supervisor an e-mail and see if it's suitable for the kind of web app I need to create.

Great stuff so far, if anyone else has any other recommendations I'll be glad to hear them.

Re: Ajax

Hey, just to add, theres some AJAX tutorials here: http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/default.asp

I haven't yet looked at them but i usually trust w3schools, they will go from basic to advanced though (might be a lot more basic than advanced AJAX)

Cheers,
Jamey
