Remote Control Solution
Ok, so I am going off to college in the fall and have decided to buy a nice Laptop with graduation money and I was unsure if I would take my tower with me to school. Well it came to me recently that university internet connections are monitored and downloading is extremely limited, so I thought a good solution would be to leave the tower on at home and use a remote control program to download and burn stuff with the tower via my Laptop. Now first off I wanted to know what program(s) could be recommended for such a purpose, and also I was wondering what security measures I might need to take to be safe.
PS: If anyone has any sites for customizing Laptops and any recommendations I would appreciate it. I was thinking of customizing and Alienware one or trying www.cyberpowerpc.com. |

Re: Remote Control Solution
The easiest way I've found to achieve this is through RealVNC or UltraVNC. Both have free versions, and work almost flawlessly once set up properly (you might have to configure port forwarding for it to work.
Also, keep in mind you'll need to make sure you know the IP of the tower while you're at school. For this, my favorite service is No-IP (http://no-ip.org). The service provides you with a free subdomain to use to connect your PC. There's also a program you can run as a service on the computer you want to connect to so that it'll always be updated, even if the ISP cycles out your IP address.
