!!!help!!!

G'day clever people. I'm just starting in a computer course. I'm an old fart fella with absolutely no knowledge of the clever stuff. I'm doing an assessment task that I could do with a little help on. One of the questions I have to answer is "How do I check the hard drive and report on how to use this information to diagnose any faults with the hard drive. Any help would be gratefully received.

Re: !!!help!!!

Well, you probably would run chkdsk (type "chkdsk" without the quotes, in the Windows "Run" box). This will tell you if there are errors on the hard disk, which could indicate a dying hard disk, among other things. You could also check the health of the HDD by using a utility that access the drives SMART sensor information, such as a software utility like HD Tune (http://www.hdtune.com/) It's free. There are other tools like this. Seagate and Western Digital have their own utilities I think.
