A pivotal position
Graduated from IUPUI, B.S. in Electrical Engineering with C++.
Went to work interning at an enterprise level company and got the chance to admin onsite services, network, Active Directory, VoIP. I found I enjoied it more than Electrical Engineering, and forsaw possibly more career opportunites there. At the end of my internship, I picked up A+ (IT Tech) and then Net+(N10-004) and Sec+(SY0-201) within a week of each other. This was to test if I really had the aptitude to go far in the field, and I think I did ok. I had been resting on some unemployment which is now going out. I have so many choices, but not enough input to make the "correct" decision. I only have a few weeks left to secure a job reguardless of my decision, because of finances, but I am lucky enough to have a couple thousand saved up. I could continue to get the CCNA, go for the MCITP, learn programming languages(C#,JAVA,VB,Perl,Sql). I could schedule fall classes at IUPUI for related learning(I dont know what they offer yet.), or I could just go directly to work in IT(Private sector or Military, I dont know). Alternatively I could just go back to Engineering if my degree there is so weighty compared to all the previouly mentioned alternatives, but I dont know what kind of weight it carries.(It helped secure the internship) If you need more info to give good advice let me know. Also I dont know a better place to post for career help. |
