hello,
hi to all,
i`m a newbie in the world of computers! i have few questions, for which i`m unable to find the answers.
firstly to let:
i know basic hardware of a pc, installing windows.
now i`m interested in learning SQL, SYBASE, VC++.
the problem is i`m finding 100 of books and 100`s of software, some claim to teach in 21 days some in 24 hours, some in 12 weeks,
for eample VC++ has so many versions and its software file vary too, some are 260 mb odd some 365 mb so on.
i`m interested in learning total of SQL(all platform),VC++,JAVA(windows) as these give good jobs.
i`m unable to find the appropriate books, and the softwares too.
i`m looking to build my career, hope you would not disappoint me in letting me find my answers. i`d be obliged if you people help me in my query.

When it comes to reference material, I've always found books from Sybex to be solid. Also, depending on the book you buy, it may come with software (most come with CDs).

It is highly recommended you obtain more "formal" (ie. classroom) training/education, such as through a university or technical institute. You get far more out of it, and it counts a lot more from the employer's viewpoint. Take a look at the various diplomas, degrees, and certifications available in your area. Self-taught education (unless it stems towards things such as recognized certifications) tend to carry little weight with prospective employers.

Thank you for your patience shown and replying back to my query,
Well i`m too old to get into a college, i`m 27 years old and working as an asst. administrator in a firm where i handle management(sales) in a remote area where i cant find consultations,all i have with me is the internet.
i`m looking out for self learning skills as i dont find time from my work, i`m based in india,
i`ve seen young turks making it all by self study from the books and learning from the internet.
as i know is it possible to learn from the internet, like e-learning in java, later get the certification, well it is the skill set and ability which would be and should be honoured by the employer :-)
all i know now is, SQL, VC++ are the hot job offering fields here, be it programmer or an end user, but i don know from where to start.
kindly guide.
