Shifting To Networking
Hi Guys! Good day!
I would like to shift a career in networking. Maybe you can advise me what is the career path in networking. What is the position I should target as a beginner in this field? What is the first thing I need to do? What certification do I need to take first? I would like to build a career in networking, however, I do not want to do the cabling or the "physical" work. Hope you guys can advise me. By the way, I am working as a helpdesk support and had an experience supporting linksys products ( if you can consider that a networking experience ) Thanks! |

Re: Shifting To Networking
Cisco. Cisco, Cisco, Cisco. If you want to learn networking from the real professionals, you may wish to consider the CCNA certification.
You could also obtain the CompTIA Network+ certification, which for the most part is the INTRO half of CCNA. I should advise you, you will be doing cabling. That comes part and parsel of networking. However if you work for a sizeable (and sane) company, any real labour (such as installing cabling for a new building) would be contracted out by cabling techs. |

Re: Shifting To Networking
Just to give my 2 pennies, I'd agree with Cellus. A CCNA is a great place to start and a brilliant qualification to go for!
But I'd still say with that you'd be hard pressed to find a job where you design the network and don't do any physical stuff. Cause you would have to build a bit of experience from somewhere. Then again I could be talking crap! ;) So yea... Cisco all the way! |
