My name is Dan I am a 20 year old male from Portland Oregon currently inrolled in job corps (http://jobcorps.dol.gov/). I here at job corps waiting on the list to get in the CISCO program where I will get my A+, CCNA, and server+ and the instructor is a cisco licesensed instructor. I am wondering if I have any chance of getting hired in the IT filed with those three certs or do I need to stack up more at my local comunity college?

Re: be blunt with me
Those three certs would allow you to start in the field. These certs provide a foundation of knowledge.
To be able to obtain a better job, you will need to gain experience and improve your communications skills in English if you intend to work in the United States. Experience is pivotal as it provides proof of what you can do - your skills, talents, and experience in working on particular projects and work environments. Skill in speaking, reading, and writing English is also pivotal - communications skills are more appreciated than some may think, and the ability to communicate with administrators, managers, representatives, and even the users you assist is vital. The short answer to your question is a possible yes, however you will be limited in what you can do and therefore limited as to what/where you can work. It is recommended that you continue to work on your technical skills (eg. certs), as well as work on your communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing). And of course keep in mind that no matter how many certs you have or how well you can communicate, you need to gain experience before you can move "up and out" (higher, more specialized positions), so working in lower-level jobs is required. |

Re: be blunt with me
Thank you Cellus part of the job corps program is getting my english and comunication skills brought to a employable level. Another neat thing about the cisco program here is they focus on dealing with customers and teaching proper grammer you have to pass a test before you can even get into the program.
Any more input would be cool I will be checking back for some :D |

Re: be blunt with me
All I can say is... Good luck on your program!
One thing I should note is that, comparatively, the CCNA is far harder to get than the CompTIA certifications. Much harder by an order of magnitude. You will really need to study on it and get some good practice on Cisco hardware and IOS. |
