Poxy Norton

About a week ago my noob brother downloaded a supposed keygen for a game he has on his computer. the reason he did so is because i was out of the room and he was to lazy to move the internet wire to his room(modem) and i guess he tought it would be more fun to get my computer hacked to death rather than his, anyway it was a high class peice of spyware i believe.

This spyware kept changing my backround to a 'you have been hacked buy our scanner to remove it' i tought this was quite funny so i wasnt that pissed off but then came the prompts every 1 minute there would be prompts just asking over and over again to buy this scanner. it was to late to identify this thing and go routing through reg keys for the rest of the night so i punched my noob brother in the head and went to sleep.

The next day i scanned my computer with loads of things and didnt get much info on it (did find some other crap lurking in my hard drive though) so i decided to restore my system. i did so and everything seemed to be going well backround was back and prompts were gone but then norton started with a whole new wave of prompts. every time i started anything that had to do with the internet i would get the message "*internet explorer* is trying to access the internet through unrecognised modules" which ment that unless i permitted this action the program(internet) would not work.

At first i tought i had underestimated this spyware and that it was now trying to access the internet trought all sorts of programs for a last grasp at life but i dont think this is the case as i have permitted all of these prompts and the spyware has not resurfaced and plus the prompts dnt look like a peice of spyware is trying to access the internet, it looks more like nottn now thinks all programs are hacks. so im thinking either the system restore broke up norton or somehow messed up my modem or the router.

The thing is i want to use norton even though its out of date because i always want a firewall active and i dont trust that filthy windows one.

So i would be very greatful if anyone could perhaps shed some light or these prompts or share some similar experiences and how if at all you fixed it.

Thx chums.

Mod Edit, remove bad language.

Let's start by saying we don't help with illegal acts here. Then we can chase that down by saying this is a family forum, and you need to clean up your language. I suggest you start by reading the TSG Rules and work from there.
