On my computers I run two firewalls. The Windows Firewall that came with XP Service Pack 2, and the the firewall that came with the Vcomm System Suite 5 & 6. The two seem to exist with no apparent problems. What is your opinion? I have problems getting some software to run, but traced the problem to the Vcomm firewalls. Is the Windows firewall capable of handling the job by itself or what do I need to handle the firewall problem? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't use a firewall and I like it. Many would think I'm nuts but I've never been hacked and in the 13+ years I've been computing I've only had one (1) virus. If you want a good one, get a hardware firewall. Most routers include one.

Hi,
The problem that you will have is not running either firewall, but mainly running two at the same time. That can cause more problems than you wish or need. Just disable one of them (or delete one of them) and work with only one to help the applications you want to use to open properly. In my Personal Opinion, I could not recommend the Windows Firewall at this stage of that program development. If you want a free one that works well, then take a look at the Zone Alarm free version. I have used it with AVG Anti-virus and never have had any problems with conflicts or getting a virus of any kind. Hey, both are free, how could you ask for more?

FWIW, I don't use a software firewall on any computer here, just the router's firewall. I have a similar record, I guess it just depends on where you go and how careful you are.
