I have email accounts with both Yahoo and Hotmail. Suddenly three days ago, I am unable to access any part of these sites - they just time out!
The same thing happens if I try to use my email through my ISP - which is also an Internet based email rather than POP mail. I can go anywhere on the net except those sites above and (strangely enough) a few others that use the Yahoo shopper. I would think that if this was the web sites, everyone would be screaming their heads off, but they are not. I assume it is unique to me. Also the exact problem exists on my other computer, so it is not some specific setting. The thing is - I haven't done any tweaking with the setting or anything! Has anyone heard of this type of problem, and any suggestions? Thanks! Using - XP Home/SP2 IE 6.?? |

Do both of your computers connect through a router to your ISP? Is there a firewall in that router?

Oh Oh! I totally forgot about my firewall with Trend Antvirus and yes, I do have a router - Linksys WRT54GC .
But, if everything has been OK, how can a problem with those spontaneously develop? The only other strange thing that has happened was a "Security Alert" about the time this started saying I needed an immediate update from Microsoft and something about a Trojan. I hit the update button and then ran a full antivirus scan, but it found nothing. I ran Spybot and found nothing. I'll see if I can add those sites to the firewall "approved list" and see what happens. What about the router? Thanks!! |

I bypassed my firewalls (antivirus one & Linksys one) and I still have the problem.
Sense, it is effecting two computers the same way - the problem should be at the router or beyond. Could the ISP be responsible? Also, I checked to find the extent of my problem and it turns out that not only can I not access Yahoo and MSN email, but in the case of MSN - I cannot access anything by Microsoft - the corporate pages - nothing! In the case of Yahoo, I can go everywhere except email, calendar, etc. This almost sounds like some sort of malicious hacking - it is just too specific to be an accident? |

This is clearly not an IE issue, so I will move this appropriately.
