Site-Access problems
I wasn't sure where to post this. . .
Anyway. I have a Windows XP computer, on which I am running ZoneAlarm (free firewall). I am currently unable to access certain sites -- I've been unable to figure out exactly why. I can't access any site having to do with a webmail program (such as Yahoo! Mail, GMail, or Hotmail) and I can't access the online college applications (which I have to fill out soon. . . :o) I've had ZoneAlarm installed for a while, so I don't think this has to do with that, and it is happening in various browsers (I've tested FireFox, IE, and Opera). I've run AVG Virus check and Ad-Aware to check for adware/spyware and nothing is working. Any ideas? |

I assume you are having problems from home?
It is possible that someone has Parental Controls and/or port blocking enabled on a router or with software? As for the college application, you may not be able to access this with Firefox, you may need IE? Can you ping the sites you cannot browse? JamesO |

There is no parental controls or port blocking. . .as just a month ago or so the computer was able to access it just fine. No settings have been changed that I (or the rest of my family) is aware of.
EDIT: Ping sent for packets, returned four packets, in other words, it worked just fine. I don't understand what's up!! Last edited by aanimo; 12-02-2005 at 02:55 PM. |

If you can ping it but not access it by a web page you have with some DNS issues or some firewall problem??
Has this machine ever had Norton installed on it? May want to reboot in Safe Mode and see what happens. F8 at computer restart, choose Safe Mode with Networking. JamesO |
