Confused Vista, Belkin problem enabling securty

I own a HP Laptop with Vista home premium.

I was trying to connect it to my Belkin G Router. I had problem with the laptop recognising the internet connection. But managed to sort that out.
I now face the problem of securing it from other people.

When i try to, i connect the router to the laptop via ethernet cable and change the security settings. The router stays connected to the internet, but when i try re connecting the laptop it fails, as it doesnt ask me for the passphrase.

Could anyone help me out here? It could be a certain setting somewhere that needs to be changed, i dont know.

Many Thanks

Re: Vista, Belkin problem enabling securty

Remove all the stored wireless profiles from the laptop's wireless client and then search for networks. It should ask for the password.
