email virus and spreading through my contacts

hi

i have recently (in the last few days) been receiving spam type emails advertising some sort of pharmecutical company, i have no idea how they would have my email, or really whats going on.

i has now progresses to sending everyone in my contact list an email telling them to check out a website.

i really want to know if i can even get rid of this or weather i have to start a new email account? i use hotmail, and being an internet based email, im guessing there isnt much i can do to get rid of it.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
if any more information is need, just ask, ill be happy to do anything that might get rid of this.
