weird firewall issue
honestly I'm not sure if this is a firewall issue, a hardware issue or a windows issue but it seems to be triggered by firewall software so here goes. Recently I decided to make the more to a freeware firewall I tried Comodo first and everything was fine, working away good to go. I shut down my laptop for the night and when I went to start it up again it froze at the 'windows in starting up...' screen. I thought it might be something with that software so I tired the one by PC tools. Again froze. If I go into safe mode and uninstall the software it windows will load. If I go into msconfig and disable it as a startup service it still freezes.
I scanned for virus's and spyware and the like and came up clean. I got so annoyed and I had been wanting a reason to reformat anyway that I went ahead and did that, thinking that a clean install would slove my problems. Nope. Still getting the issue which makes no sense to me. Has anyone come arcoss an issue like this before? Running XP SP2, btw |

Re: weird firewall issue
Hi,
I need more information for solving your problem. 1. What is the capacity of your laptops memory? 2. What are the applications in your startup? 3. Did you perform a defrag and other system management like, running CCleaner or other crap cleaner? 4. What is the free-space of your harddrive and what is the location of the pagefile and the settings of the virtual memory? 5. Can you post a HijackThis log?

Re: weird firewall issue
1. 2GB of RAM with 128MB shared graphics
2. Mosr of the start up programs are default ones from installing Windows, Toshiba stuff for the function keys, touchpad, volume control, wireless config. Currently installed by me and running at startup: a few processes for Microsoft office, GMail Notifier, Windows Live, Object Dock, Style XP and Styler and pretty much all of those were't even installed until after this happened as I wanted to make sure that none of my programs caused the problem. 3. I just reinstalled Windows so I didn't think a defrag was necessary, but I certain;y can :P 4. Free Space: 121GB out of 138GB. Location of page file, as in physical location? Searching for pagefile threw back PAGEFILE.VB_ at C:\WINDOWS\I386 Virtual Memory Settings: I haven't changed anything, so I'm not sure where to find the settings 5. I don't have HijackThis but I can download if you like Thanks |
