Cry Shared Internet Connection via WIFI and Security problems

Hi,
I own a Sony Vaio VGN-N21E laptop with Windows Vista Home Premuim (recently updated to SP1) and recently I formatted it. After installing windows again, I installed only some needed programs like Firefox,Skype,NOD32 etc. I use an ADSL connection with a usb modem and we thought with my boyfriend it would be a good idea to share my connection via WIFI instead of buying a router. We also formatted his desktop pc and installed Windows Vista Ultimate so we both had new and clean systems...Before connecting to the Internet we both had started our NOD32's but the only thing that worried me was that our nod32 was an old version (since 2006) and i was hoping it would update fast enough so I won't get infected with anything. (I was also worried about the windows defender updates, and windows updates too because there were too many definitions and updates to download..)So after we did all of our updates we tried to create an ad-hoc network and share my internet connection. The first two days we couldn't make it because we ticked the wrong boxes on sharing but eventually we did it. The problems started 2 days ago when he had the modem and i connected to the ad-hoc connection. He got an error that something like "Profile user service" stopped working and everything was crashing and refreshing but after that he couldn't disconnect from the internet connection. We tried it vice versa and it happened to me too a second after he connected to our ad-hod and this time an error for "run32.dll" poped and we had the same symptoms...Since yesterday we could use our connection only for a few minutes and everytime we got that errors but today i got the same error (I think it was about run32.dll) at start-up when i wasn't even connected to the internet or even to the ad-hoc network and i thought something wasn't right here....All these days we thought that we got those errors because of an IP conflict but we thought that was ok.
I'm reeeealy tired of formatting both pc's,wait for all these updates and re-installing everything so please tell me what to do...Now I'm using on my own the internet connection and I don't get these errors so often BUT i accidently discovered a new serious problem... I can't access my Control Panel or my Security Center! When I try to, i get the error that Windows explorer stopped working and it refreshes but i still can't access them Now I don't even know if my firewall is enabled or if windows defender is running...I only have nod32 to protect me and i scanned my pc and found nothing, so I saw your rules and scanned with Panda Active-Scan and hijacked only my laptop....
I hope you're not confused by now and understand which are my problems, but I'll highlight them for you with orange so you can see them without reading all this text Thanks in advance guys, the last time a had a problem you really helped me out and I'm gratefull!

PS: I forgot something very important! 2 hours ago i decided to boot in safe mode and scan my laptop...I found nothing again BUT I couldn't access Control Panel or Security Center either!!!! This is BAD right?
