Firewall
Vista Basic
I have just downloaded Comodo Pro, it seems to have slowed up my Fujitsu Siemens laptop. Anyone know if this is normal behavour? I was using the Windows fire wall, but was worried as it was only one way, so thought I should use something else. Ron.

Re: Firewall
Some people find that software firewalls, as oposed to hardware/router firewalls, can slow down their computers. I've never noticed this though. Tweaking the settings usually helps. Have you made any changes in the Comodo options?
btw, the Vista firewall has improved on the old XP firewall. It now monitors traffic in and out, but I would still go with Comodo.

Re: Firewall
Many thanks for the post.
I had a look in firewall general settings 'Safe mode' is the default, which I left. Alerts were on 'low', again I left as it was. Ron.

Re: Firewall
Comodo takes a while to "learn" your settings and preferences. Give it a few days at least, and I think you'll find that it's a great app, thought, in the beginning CAN be annoying. IMO, it's worth the short learning periods. You may also need to adjust your "Defense" settings. If too high, it can be a PITA.

Re: Firewall
qbawl...thanks for the comments.
I take your point re allowing Comodo to get used to my surfing, I remember years ago getting used to Zone Alarm, that was a real pest start with. I will as you suggest give it a few days, it seems to be getting better even today, my concern was I didn't want to have introduced a resource hog. I understand Comodo has a good name that is why I thought I would try it. Apart from Active Process Lists and Trusted Software Vendoers, the others in 'Defence' are greyed out. Once again thanks for the comments. Ron.

Re: Firewall
Training Mode is the default, so no problems there. As qbawl says, it will take a week or two for Comodo to learn what's safe to allow. After that, you won't even notice it's there.
Right-click the systray icon and set Defense & Security Level to 'disabled' to see if this improves things (just a temporary measure to see the effect). It could be that you already have other security software installed doing the same job, making this feature of Comodo unnecessary and possibly wasteful of resources. When your computer feels slow, press Ctrl-Alt-Del to open the Task Manager, click the Processes tab and double click the CPU and Mem Usage column headers to re-order the list. This will give you some indication as to whether Comodo or some other process is responsible for the lag.

Re: Firewall
Thanks for the post koala, would (CMDagent.exe) be Comodo?
It's the only thing there that remotely looks like Comodo ie CMD short for Comodo. I notice AVG takes a fair whack 52,100K as I write this and ieexplore.exe 92,296K I must say puter doesn't seem so slow today, perhaps I was crying before I was hurt.

Re: Firewall
The figures I gave in my last post were for my Desktop running XP3
I have discovered the Comodo .exe is cssurf and that reads 3,668.K The Laptop runnig Vista comodo is 800K and AVG is 988K Seems a big difference between XP3 and Vista basic. Ron.

Re: Firewall

Re: Firewall
DazH Thanks for the link.
Yes, Windows firewall is off. I always download to desktop then go off line and switch Firewall off before installing any anti virus or firewalls. But a good point, and just as well to mention it.
