Virus protection resource hog?
hello i have McAffe Virus Scan Plus with siteadvisor. I also have a 2 GHz dual core processor. Core number 1 stays at anywhere from 80-95% usage, and core 2 stays at 40-50% and flucuates to 90% often. I was wondering if McAffe would have anything to do with it because my CPU never acted like this before. Does McAffe have a history of being a resource hog?
thanks for the help |

Re: Virus protection resource hog?
That sounds like pretty heavy usage to me. I'm using an old single core machine with XP, NOD, ThreatFire, SpywareBlaster and SpywareTerminator. The Task Manager shows CPU usage varying between 2- 3%, with 31 processes open (Opera and FF both have open tabs).

Re: Virus protection resource hog?
McAffe is huge. AVG is getting to be quite large too. AntiVir is lite but has ads now. Older versions of Symantec are good.
I suspect consumer security software is bloated on purpose just to compell the user to buy more cleanup and optimizer software.
