[SOLVED] networking 3 machines, 2 XP, 1 win2000
Hi,
I am trying to network 3 machines, a desktop that is running Win2000 Sp4, a laptop running winxp pro sp 2 and another laptop running xp home sp 2. All running through a router. I can see all the computers from each one but the only one that allows the others to view files is the xp pro laptop. When I try to view the shared folders on the other two machines I get a message saying I do not have permission. I have had the xp pro laptop and the win2000 machines networked in the past so im really confused as to what is going on. It seems to be an issue with permission settings on the other two machines but as im here posting I cant work it out! all folders are set for sharing etc, I have played with permissions on the win2000 system but not getting anywhere. Please help.... this is very frustrating.... cheers Kiwiguy |

Re: networking 3 machines, 2 XP, 1 win2000
Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents:
You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD. 1)Filename : FIXANON.REG 2)Save as type: all files 3)Encoding: ANSI If you do not change it from txt type to All files type, then the file will actually be FIXANON.REG.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result. ------------------- Use text after this line ------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000 ------------------- Use text before this line ----------------- Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question. Reboot the computer.

Re: networking 3 machines, 2 XP, 1 win2000
HI John, thanks for the post. Im not 100% sure on what you want me to do...
I understand saving the notepad file and naming it etc but this part... ------------------- Use text after this line ------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000 ------------------- Use text before this line ----------------- Do I copy and past this into the wordpad file? And do I do this on all the the machines or just the xphome one. I can actually view files on other machines from the xphome but neither of the other two pcs can view files on the xphome. I have tried booting the xphome up in safemode but it makes no difference. Cheers |
