I was wondering if you guys know of any way to find and block IP addresses.
A friend of mine has a blog and she’s been getting comments from one particular person who is increasingly disrespectful and insulting. He’s gone so far as to spam not only her blog but also one of her supporters with hundreds of emails and subscriptions to catalogs. Its really getting out of hand and its too much work to delete them. She wants to block his IP address so he can’t post comments on her blog anymore. I think there are downloads in order to block but I don’t know of any free good ones and I don’t know how to find out his IP address. We know that he could change his IP address but we’re hoping that by doing this we can discourage him and he’ll give up. Thanks so much |

Re: IP Blocking (help stop harassment)
Look for the "dig" and "whois" programs. These are generally *nix based but there are Windows versions. Generally to block IP's you have to have access to a router that would be serving your blog. When you get the IP address you can block a single IP or a range. For instance if the "bad" person provider is comcast. You could block a single IP address or all 16 million for a single IP address range.
There are Internet versions of the "dig" and "whois" programs. Dig returns either the DNS name and/or IP address of somebody on the Internet. Dig also has an "MX" option so you can trace back email to the hosting group. Whois can give you the phone number and street address of an ISP's responsible person. I hope this helps. It will give you at least a place to start. |
