Smile [SOLVED] Virus problems

I have 100mb per day to download but because of this I had to format my computer within 1 month of purchase. Can you give me information and tips about how to be safe while downloading software and games from Internet?

Re: Virus problems

use legitimate sites.. dont use illegal sites..
1. because they're illegal
2. they're usually viruses/malware

Re: Virus problems

Did you have to reformat because your computer got infected?

What security software and firewall do you have installed? Do you have any realtime scanners, or do you manually scan the files after you've downloaded them and before running?

If you're using Internet Explorer, switch to a safer one, like Firefox, and install the McAfee Site Advisor addon. This places an icon in the status bar that turns red for potentially dangerous sites and green for tested safe sites. It also indicates safe/dangerous sites in your google searches.

Are you using P2P or downloading from unknown sites? What type of files are they? (screensavers, themes, exe's)

Re: Virus problems

Use FF
www.virustotal.com before downloading
Make sure you have an up-to-date antivirus
Download from trusted sites only
Never download something that is to good to be true
Check for legitimacy
