Hmm I was wondering....
This may seem like an odd question but is there a program that can detect what kind of firewall(s) my computer is using?
I seem to be behind a firewall and I have no idea where one could be running from. Every single person\forum I have asked about my problem has said its a firewall and it is so frustrating because windows firewall is off and i have either removed or turned off any others. So please if there is someway for a program to say which firewall is blocking them it could prove useful. ty ty ty |

Re: Hmm I was wondering....
What Anti Virus program are you using?
Many AV Security Suites have Firewalls included, also many routers have them too.

and uh I pretty much think i am behind a firewall and the windows one says it is off. heeeelp!!! Oh and to be clear I do not intentially have one atm and that is the problem! good thing is though i haven't had a virus or malware since this started wheeeeee I just really want to know atm if there is a way to detect a firewall and what program or software is running it. Re: Hmm I was wondering....
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection? Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally? On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Okay this is what the problem is...I cannot connect to the internet thats what it says. However I am on the internet right now. I can't seem to use any programs that need to route back to me like for instance poker stars says internet conectivity issue..any antivirus programs i have can't update,I can't use cd roms like guild wars they all say the same thing pretty much. Also I have to have windows updates off otherwise i can't connect however I THINK that is a sseperate issue. I have pored through my puter to remove any traces of symatec or norten as that was when my problem started. My isp provider says its a software issue and pretty much offered no help all i got from them is that they couldn't ping my puter. And I am like wow because i am like positive their software caused the problem in the first place. Several months ago when they merged with norten they sent the update out before it was ready and every since then I have had this problem. And I never put their stuff back on my puter. ok so i hope this helps. thank you so much for your time! |

Re: Hmm I was wondering....
Well, have you tried the Norton Removal Tool? This might get rid of the traces of Norton that may still be screwing you up.

Re: Hmm I was wondering....
yes,I have ran it...and it said it couldn't find any norten on my puter to go get the product code and click download...well when i click download the page won't display. Although the page is not displaying now,I am familiar with the tool and have used it before.
So I was scanning through my registry looking for any like old spyware or w\e and I noticed a lot of AVG in my registry. but I uninstalled it because it wasn't working properly. So would AVG put up a firewall? |

Re: Hmm I was wondering....
If a program has been uninstalled, it should be safe to delete the obsolete registry entries. But create a restore point first, just in case. Deleting the Norton registry keys might fix the problem, if their existence is indeed causing it.
