I was wondering if there was a way to get get onto a wireless network without a network key?

That is called breaking into someone's network and it is against the law ... but lets say that you are the owner of that network and forgot your key. I can't go into much detail but I think that there is only one type of network that can be easily (within a few hours at the most) be broken into ... ********************
You need a few tools and certainly not Windows!

Yes I'm pretty sure there is ... problem (and most important thing) infact is the wireless card and its firmware which will have to be "tuned" to allow for promiscuous listening. Usually normal cards do NOT listen on all networks. Some of them have firmware which can be used to be set in MonitoringMode (as an option), others have to have their firmware flushed (to force it). Linux has the ability to load at boot time, uploaded (new) firmware as a file in a specific directory, that is why it is easier. Linux's kernel is modular (dynamically adjustable and flexible) whilst Window's kernel is monolithic (unalterable and closed to changes).
