Adaware 2007
I just recently made the switch to this version, and I have to say I'm not very pleased with the fact I have to leave a bit of it running at all times just so I can scan when I please.
Spybot still gives you the option if you wish to leave it's protections running whilst you do other things or to leave it off. I've always preferred off to on seeing how I like to have my system resources for gaming not extraneous programs! I mean I even use Aston shell to replace my windows explorer shell. But thats mostly because explorer.exe does nothing but randomly crash and eat up wayyy to much ram! What do y'all think? Yay or nay on them for having that background service? |

Re: Adaware 2007
Unless you have the Pro version of Ad-aware with AdWatch, there is no real use keeping it running. AdWatch is the only component in Ad-aware which provides real-time protection.
As for Spybot S&D, it's a bit different. TeaTimer for example watches your registry for changes (and asks if you wish to allow/deny them). The Immunization function in Spybot S&D adds known bad sites to be blocked (or if using IE to have them run in the Restricted Zone) while using either Internet Explorer or Firefox. Our security team has a few recommendations on various free and paid programs available, which you can view in our PC Safety and Security thread here. Last edited by Cellus; 01-20-2008 at 05:25 PM. |
