Re: wat can someone do with your ip
With your IP, someone can find out your ISP provider, which can give a general idea of where a user lives, and occasionally, although not often, target a specific computer. If you are directly connected to the internet, they can attempt to connect directly to your computer and exploit any vulnerabilities. Using either a firewall or router can for the most part block intruders.

Re: wat can someone do with your ip
Most forums, will have on record, your ip. *i'm not positive* but i am quite sure, that TSF now has your ip on file somewhere. If someone knowing your ip address made you "unsafe" then you would never be able to visit a website.

Re: wat can someone do with your ip
What makes you think you're being hacked? A properly installed firewall will show blocked attempts that are not necessarily hackers, that's just the way the internet works. The vast majority of blocks are nothing to worry about.

Re: wat can someone do with your ip
There is no special security risk in revealing your IP address. Mine is 72.78.223.88, have fun.
Hackers do not routinely target a specific IP address, it's not worth the effort. They will do a scan of thousands or tens of thousands of them at a time looking for vulnerabilities. You have to be very paranoid to worry about your IP address, as long as you have proper firewall protection.

Re: wat can someone do with your ip
Why would someone want to do a DOS attack on you? Unless you're really made someone mad, this should be a non-issue.

Re: wat can someone do with your ip
Even if you're not very protected, if someone has your IP it isn't really a big deal. As previously mentioned, almost all forum software tracks your IP address somehow. Also, any game or server you connect to has your IP address and may keep it. If you're worried, just install a firewall. If you're getting threats on a game or something, it's most likely a script kiddie who has no potential for doing harm. I'm not worried, 70.68.212.60(storage.us.to) is my IP if you "hackers" would like to "Hack" me.

Re: wat can someone do with your ip
All the security hype has mad people paranoid nowadays. There is indeed information that you should keep confidential, the public IP address is one of the low risk pieces of data.
