What Router should I get?
My 2Wire router went dead after only one year??? Well, I don't know if it really went dead or not but the only modem that now works with my DSL is the black one that came from AT&T so I'm using that. I don't have a hardware firewall now. The router would give lights on power and local network but the broadband link would keep flashing orange and never stabilize. I'm thinking maybe I unplugged and plugged it in too many times since it didn't have a power button. My phone also made a loud screeching noise but that noise has went away now that I have a different modem on it.
So, if anyone doesn't know what is wrong with my 2Wire, I guess I'll be getting a new router. What one should I get? I always thought Linksys were the best? I want one that is configurable so that I can open and close ports and such. Thanks. |

Re: What Router should I get?
If connecting the modem in place of it with everything else the same works, I'd say the router has a problem. Did you do a factory reset on it?

Re: What Router should I get?
thanks guys. No, I never did a factory reset. How do I do that? I'm using the cheap black modem that AT&T gives out right now and it's working fine but I like the hardware firewall that my 2Wire provided. I had DSL filters on for my 2Wire just as I'm using one now for my current modem. The thing just went out on me suddenly without warning. Hadn't changed a thing so either the filter went out or the router went out. I tried a different filter with the 2Wire and that didn't work.....that filter wasn't labeled as a 2Wire filter, though but it was labeled a DSL filter....I figured they were interchangeable. ARe they?

Re: What Router should I get?
You do NOT filter the DSL modem, just all the other phone equipment!
