[SOLVED] Wireless Internet Security

I have two computers in my house that are utilized for Internet and email. One is a notebook with a Belkin 54g wireless notebook network card [F5D7010]. The other computer is a desktop with a wireless g desktop network card [F5D7000].

The wireless cards receive information from a Belkin 54g Router [F5D7230-4]. The router is connected to a Motorola SB5100 SURFboard cable modem.

Both computers have NOD32 A/V and Zonealarm Internet Security Firewall.

Recently, a neighbor came by my house and told me while he was online, he could see my Internet connection[?].

The security/encryption available with the router [WEP], will not work with my notebook, so I leave it turned "off"] .

I know with wireless Internet, the signal is transmitted which would allow anyone outside of the house to connect to the Internet. Is software available, which I could install on both computers, which would limit access to my connection?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Joseph

Hello JHY-IC
When you set up your home network or when you got your modem you should have got a SSID number and also a WI-FI pin? did you receive them?

Re: Wireless Internet Security

You need to enable encryption on the Belkin router, then connect and enter the same encryption key on the workstations. If all the cards support WPA, that is the encryption to use, and a long and random key of 20 characters or more is best.

If you do that, you'll be quite secure.

Re: Wireless Internet Security

Maybe it's better to buy a software for wifi security? I don't know which one but probably it will help.

Re: Wireless Internet Security

Software for WiFi security? Maybe you should think about your answers before you provide them.

Good encryption is the right answer to this question.
