What one is best?
I have run Norton Internet Security on my PC. With this running I would from time to time get e-mail telling me I have sent out some type of virus or other. I also found my PC seemed to slow down dramatically. I would update Norton on a regular basic letting it do the necessary when needed I even did a manual update and a scan of the PC and it came up with nothing.
Eventually I reverted back to McAfee Internet Security and on the first scan it picked up plenty of viruses that Norton did not seem to see. Since I have been back with McAfee all seem to be running 100%. So now I am nearing the time when I need to renew my Security software and I would like to ask if other have had the same scenario with Norton and what Internet Security Software is recommended.

well after having enough trobule with norton locking up my systems i said screw norton back in 2001. after that i have tested out many programs and stumbled upong kerio personal firewall and AVG Free edition. i have run these on all my systems since 2002 and have never had a single issue intrusion wise or virus wise.
if there is a virus AVG detects it and tells you where it is so even if AVG cant remove it boot into safe mode and do it manually. kerio might seem complicated if you do choose the professional setting but you can adjust every little bit of options what to block etc in there. logs and everything what acceses what is currenctly connected kerio shows. id definatly recommend both fo those because they are awsome and both are freeware

Well this PC I am using right now still has the Norton installed on it and it ran a full virus scan the weekend and found nothing. I am still busy doing a scan with Kaspersky online scan and it has found the following. So once the scan is finished and all the virus it finds are sorted out I will be uninstalling Norton on this machine as well and going over to something else. Maybe I will give your option a go and see how it all turns out.
Total number of scanned files: 33338 Number of viruses found: 2 Number of infected objects: 5 Number of suspicious objects: 0 Duration of the scan process: 00:37:32

kaspersky is usually also very good ... one of the tools made by russians AGAINST viruses ^^

Well I have now uninstalled Norton never to have it back on any of my PC’s again. I have installed McAfee Internet Security on this machine as well and am now running a virus scan. It has already picked up a few that Norton did not yesterday.
I have no come to the conclusion the Norton is the biggest load of junk there is.

I use a lot of other freeware and find it quite good but I have been using McAfee since it was freeware and just sort of stuck with it all the years. What ever made me try Norton the last time around I will never know

Indeed. I would personally not touch a free antivirus solution myself if I have a half-decent paid one with an active subscription. Again, AVG Free is a good free antivirus product, but it uses outdated and sometimes incomplete definitions in comparison to its cousin AVG Professional.
I'm with SpySentinel on the above choices. Kaspersky is an incredible antivirus product that comes out with new definitions several times every day. NOD32 from Eset is also incredibly good and isn't bloated to boot. |
