Port forwarding...

I was trying to set up port forwarding with my DLink router and I ran into some problems. I set my computer to a static IP address, added that IP address to the router's client list, and changed the DHCP settings so that the dynamic IPs were assigned above my static IP. The port forwarding that I set up worked for the programs I needed it for, but I could no longer access webpages. Is there some setting that keeps me from loading http while I have a static IP assigned?

It sounds like you forgot to add the dns servers in your IP settings when you changed to static.

I definately left the DNS servers blank, what do I fill in this field?

Well, try getting into your router, there might be a area for status or connection in there. It might be there, else you could always turn the computer to DHCP and do a IPCONFIG /all in command line(or winipcfg for 9x users). Just write them down and put them in your IP settings.

I use cable internet on my network with a dynamic WAN IP address. Does this mean that I cannot set a static DNS server?

Ok, in your IP settings you got everything in there filled out(IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and at least a preferred dns server). your default gateway would be your router, subnet mask, dns servers should be the same as what the router is using for subnet mask and dns server. If by some chance it still doesn't work can you post your model of router, IP settings for your computer and router.

You need to set the DNS and Default Gateway addresses to the address of the router.
